Losing strength and experience, the Eagles will have to adjust on the fly until they completely figure out what they’re working with. Combine this with Antoine Whitner transferring to IMG Academy after picking up offers from Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, and you’ll notice that the Eagles lost a lot heading into the regular season. Just weeks before National Signing Day, Dugger committed to Davidson University. Prior to his season-ending lateral collateral ligament tear, he picked up offers from VMI, Valparaiso, and Davidson. Dugger ended up with 1,251 rushing yards and 21 total touchdowns. After the first five games alone Dugger rushed for 1,006 yards with 16 touchdowns and was still having a hard time showing up on the college radar.

Perhaps the biggest replacement that’ll have to be made is for running back Wesley Dugger. On June 18, Eggers finally picked up his first collegiate offer of the offseason coming from Virginia Union University. However, a couple of glaring change will have to be addressed before we start moving things around.Īfter quarterbacking last season for Mills Godwin, Taylor Eggers (JR QB 6-3 210) has made the transition to Trinity Episcopal. Coming into the regular season, Mills Godwin is aiming to work on particular habits that’ll solidify a positive culture alongside improving how many games they win this season. At the same time, that is precisely the reason for the Eagles to take more chances this season. This may not be the season where Mills Godwin is prepared to take more chances and that’s because Coach Strine is entering only his first season. The back half of their schedule proved to be more of a challenge for the Eagles who lost three of their last four games including losses to Hermitage and Douglas Freeman. Understanding how important it is to start off strong, Mills Godwin started 4-2 out the gate enjoying wins over Atlee, Glen Allen, Thomas Jefferson, and Tucker. The Eagles held a fairly average strength of schedule last season with the overall combined record of their opponents faced being 54-55. Although Mills Godwin finished with a record of 6-4 in 2015, they followed up positive progression with slight regression finishing 5-5 in 2016. That won’t be the case when the Eagles line up at week one. It’s common for an incumbent head coach to assume control of a team that has underperformed as least a season prior to his arrival. However, Coach Strine is very fortunate as he starts his first season as the Eagles Commander-in-chief. Ron Strine has been within the Mills Godwin football system over the last 24 years so he knows the ins and outs of the Eagles football program. The Eagles ventured out looking for a replacement head football coach this summer and they struck gold by looking in-house before making their decision. Mills Godwin head football coach Ron Strine made it a point to correct us when we stated he wasn’t a new arrival and he was correct in doing so.

With Ron Strine at the helm, change in culture is to be expected at Mills Godwin
